krama wheel turns one

anniversary eco fashion giving scarves sustainability uniforms

After countless months of ideas swirling, notes scribbled, research conducted, sleep lost, oceans crossed, scarves designed, and website built, one year ago today the virtual doors to the krama wheel scarf shop opened for business and I could not be more blown away by how much love it has since received. On Day One I already saw the krama wheel site being passed around social media among total strangers. It is heartwarming to see our story shared and I feel honored to have such a growing, compassionate group of supporters joining the krama wheel family each day.

Three years ago I went on a backpacking trip that unexpectedly changed the course of my life, and I feel very lucky to have found a way to continue to support a place that so profoundly impacted me, especially since you all get to share in this special connection.  It was in a poor, remote village during that initial visit to Cambodia that I first witnessed the joy of a child receiving a new school uniform. Each child beamed with such immense confidence and glee as they received this critical key to an education. It was then that it clicked that this was one small yet significant way to invest in the country’s future.

From supporting local artisans in the traditional art of weaving, to commissioning seamstresses to sew school uniforms, to establishing a trusted partnership with BFT Center to facilitate our giving process, having a direct and sustainable impact on Cambodian communities on several levels is at the heart of the krama wheel cycle.

In just our first year, we’ve already distributed uniforms in 3 villages, connected with inspiring world-changers, and received some great attention. The year ahead has some big things in store: exciting collaborations with aforementioned world-changers, new scarf styles, a uniform-giving trip to Cambodia this October, more stories of lives changed, and further opportunities for you to participate in making an impact.  We will share all of these developments with you via our email newsletter, so be sure to stay in the loop and sign up for updates.

Our vision is to inspire other wanderers and wonderers to embrace opportunities to make a positive impact in the world. Whether through our store or an experience of your own, the possibilities are endless. I am ever-grateful to all of you who are reading this and contributing to the krama wheel journey in your own special way. You put the wheel of positive and sustainable change in motion and I cannot wait to see where this momentum takes us in the years ahead!
.
wander well,
.

Lovely piece of reflection, Roni. It is obvious that not only are you helping the development of Cambodia, you are helping the development of yourself. Here’s to many more years of affecting positive change inside both this lovely country and the hearts of you and your supporters.
